Judgment526 • 1 year ago

Not to be confused with "Monogatari." :P

I can't not see Eren when I see this MC, especially with that scarf...

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 1 year ago

Mikasa as well (OxO)

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 year ago

Speaking of which, is there an order to watch the Monogatari franchise in?

Judgment526 • 1 year ago

Yes, but you should Google this one, Noah. 😅

There are multiple ways to watch the series, but broadcast order is what I would recommend for first-time watchers.

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 year ago

Welp, found the watch order.

And it's time I knock off a few pegs on my list to watch.

Mengekyo Syaringan • 1 year ago

Just want to make a note that monogatari is the kind of anime that hits you once you done watching (or it hits you at the end of the arc), then it will have this kind of nostalgic feeling inside

My point is need to have patience watching them 😂

vovan1 • 1 year ago

i didn't have patience, i've speed run them x(

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 1 year ago

I'd go with Strike Witches my self since there not as many as this one.

Dazed • 1 year ago

I'm curious now, what is the watch order?

LesK • 1 year ago

there are two Monogatari watch orders.

1. release order. when they came out online, on TV, or in the movie theaters.

2. chronological order. when the events in the episodes or movies happened. this watch list gets twisty because some of the episodes are entirely and utterly out of timeline order between different seasons and sometimes INSIDE the seasons as well.

for example, the three movies are the START of the whole timeline order. yet they weren't made until (keeping all 3 movies grouped 'together' mind you) ... ahhh... 2nd or 3rd to the last parts ever animated by Shaft. plus, one part... i believe the one that came out immediately before or after the 3 movies came out in theaters... was an ONA series and wasn't broadcast on TV till the streaming services aired the final episode.

of course, the entire franchise is only on BlueRay disks. especially if you want to buy the AniplexUSA English subtitled disks... which are getting rarer and rarer by the day and gaining 'collectible' status rapidly.

Dazed • 1 year ago

I wouldn't recommend the 2nd option. I think doing so weakens the viewing experience of the earlier releases, which you only end up watching after the movies. And I feel the movies are as good as they are, because the viewer is already acquainted with Monogatari through it's earlier releases.

But I would have to try watching them in chronological order to be sure.

LesK • 1 year ago

hhmmm. :/ thinking \: both orders have their advantages and dis. i've waffled over this debate since the franchise first came out and we all found out Shaft and Nisio Isin himself didn't do things 'by the numbers'... the Chrono one is damn complex. the Release one is just... get the dates and do it.

those of us, like myself, that own almost 100% of the physical disks... 2018's 'Zoku Owarimonogatari' i've got DL on digital media and haven't bought the disks of yet... can shuffle their disks and episode titles are included in the disks' booklets and suchforth. we don't have to go hopping from streaming webpage to webpage and hoping episode numbers on that site coincide with whichever list the person is following. so i am biased when it comes to doing the Chrono one.

i've done the entire franchise Chrono only 3 times, the 3rd was when 'Zoku' streamed its' sixth and final episode. plus, i got most of my list off a timeline published inside one of the disk extra books from AniplexUSA. sooo... i'm ahead of the game slightly because i've got an 'official source' not just some person's list on some website. :)

but i would say i've done the Release one so many times it would be impossible to count. i would pull out my earlier release disks and binge em ALL right before ep1 of the 'next new' installment would pop up on sites like gogo. :D

if you have the time... now that Mono is 'supposedly' completed... give the Chrono one a shot. personally, don't bother nitpicking on order for the episodes that happen on the EXACT same day. just watch those episodes all-in-one binge and don't worry about which one to start with.

Whoever • 1 year ago

just go with release order

Velociraptor • 1 year ago

Monogatari might be too much for me so pass 😅

Also should state that yet again Saori Oonishi is ANOTHER pink hair in this.

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 1 year ago

I'm dropping already since there's too many of them so see ya.

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 year ago

I still got a few anime I need to check out BEFORE I start dropping, but compared to the last few seasons, this is gonna be a case of there just being better options.

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 1 year ago

Just saying if this one is connected to that franchise it's gonna be a big wait for me to see tho.

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 year ago

3 pink-haired waifus in the course of a year at that.

Ain't no way she's NOT being typecast as a pink-haired waifu in the future.

Velociraptor • 1 year ago

Ain't no way, bro

Just checked she's also playing Sereno Desastre,ANOTHER pink hair in Summoned to another world for a second time coming in spring. Well PINK-ish but you get what I mean😂😂

LesK • 1 year ago

it is SO dialogue intensive. it IS a hard franchise to dive into since AniplexUSA probably will never sub-contract an English dub for it. plus, the word-play puns, rhyming puns, and Japan-centric culture puns (some of them antique puns like Doraemon puns) are scattered throughout and can't easily be subtitled for English only localization.

Vlad • 1 year ago

Similar to Railgun/Index, there's a chronological one and one that it was aired in. Some even suggest other orders for some reason.

LesK • 1 year ago

nah old buddy, the release order and the chronological order of the dates and storylines are the only watch orders for Monogatari. there are some 'minor' debates about the watch orders for the episodes that happen the exact same day (or within 3 days of each other) between the different seasons. but those discussions are just 'down the rabbit hole once again Alice?' hare-splitting semantics. ;) bunny pun intended ;)

Vlad • 1 year ago

I couldn't care less, but some people go nuclear in that debate you just belittled... I usually go for the order things were originally aired, as that's how it was intended. The exception would be Peach Boy Riverside, whoever decided over the order the episodes got aired either accidentally jumbled them all up, or he was smoking some weird shit...
PS: Bakemonogatari>>Index/Railgun

LesK • 1 year ago

i've got proof of this one BTW, i read myself personally both an official 'news agency' translation and my own PC's Machine Translation of the interview this info comes from.

blame the director of PBRS... it was his fault AND the physical manga printing publisher. NOT the web manga she was drawing. did you know that one's mangaka is also the same lady who does 'Kobayashi's Maid Dragon'? anywhoo... yeah the director of PBRS decided to read the printed manga and thought to himself... '12 episodes? impossible! there isn't enough here!' so he begged and pleaded 'can we use the web-manga instead?' nope. DENIED! the physical book publisher of the PeachBoyRiverSide manga refused his request. so. he didn't have squat for material to do screenplays on. so he asked for one other thing, and yes the mangaka gave her thumbs up to this too... he would take the TV broadcast ONLY and jumble up the storylines to follow ONE character in particular. THEN he would put episodes together to follow ANOTHER character... and bring the storylines together near the END of that season. TWO net-streaming official release webservices put the episodes up in chronological order... whereas all the TV broadcasters got the episodes 'all jumbled up' but still numbered 1-12. :> look PBRS up on wikipedia and BOTH episode lists will be provided so you can watch that one in chronological order instead of the wacky-ass jumbled up version the director decided on. :)

as to 'Bake' vs 'A Certain ___' franchise... ahhh... ehhh... yeah i agree. about 90%. Koyomin is a more fun and enjoyable MC than Touma. :> plus Shinobu is a MUCH more fun loli than Index. :> but i do love Misaka... and Last Order is freaking adorable! :D

Vlad • 1 year ago

Which was your favorite character in Peachboy? Mine was Karotte followed by Frau.

LesK • 1 year ago

the rabbit with the hammer. i didn't finish the series but that one did stick out for me. :D taking the classic Japanese folk-tale that the craters on Luna look like a rabbit hammering mochi and turning 'it' into a character made me chuckle alot. :D

Vlad • 1 year ago

Both series are supernatural, but the latter overburdened my suspension of disbelief... Odachi-girl (forgot her name) even poked fun at it in one of the outros by asking what would happen to her from that point on and the correct answer was that she'd be turned to dust. Yet, in the episode itself she miraculously survived unharmed...

LesK • 1 year ago

yeah, i do like Maid Dragon alot more than i liked what little of PBRS i saw. the 'tail meat' gag always makes me laugh. :D and Kana's pervy best friend. :D hahaha and the little shorts we get to see now and again of Shouta :D that poor little boy is soo luckily unlucky! :D i still think they need to do a spin-off show JUST about Shouta and how he deals with Lucoa. :>

Dazed • 1 year ago

Just go based on chronology of when they came out.

Yes, that won't make it linear, but they've taken that into account.

Whoever • 1 year ago

it has additional "no" so perceptivity is required :P

Time. • 1 year ago

No Shinobu? What?!

Sasageyo!
